Release Athens 2024: The Offspring Photo-story
The punk rock of The Overjoyed was an ideal start, and was greeted accordingly from a crowd that arrived early to make sure they don’t miss a beat from this great band. Then it was Danko Jones turn, in their first ever live performance in Greece, and they lived up to their reputation as one of the top live acts on the scene with an electrifying set that included selections from their entire discography.
Next up were The Subways, who played their greatest hits, but also provided an unforgettable finale with a Greek version of “Rock ‘N’ Roll Queen”, and Billy Lynn crowd-surfed, declaring himself happy that his band had played before the Californian kings of punk rock.
The Offspring defended their title with a powerful, explosive set that included 17 songs from their entire career to date. Tracks such as “Come Out Play”, “Want You Bad”, “Bad Habit”, “Pretty Fly (For A White Guy)”, a beautiful cover of the Ramones’ “Blitzkrieg Bop” and the grand finale with “Self Esteem”, left thousands of people with a smile on their faces.
The second day of Release Athens 2024 will take place on Friday June 14th, with headliners the thrash metal juggernaut of Dave Mustaine’s Megadeth. Alongside them, one of the best power metal bands of all time, the Blind Guardian, and one of the most unique acts on the scene, the Grand Magus.
