Fontaines D.C. and Boy Harsher, the latest additions to Release Athens 2025
Release Athens 2025 welcomes Fontaines D.C. and Boy Harsher on Friday June 27th, at Plateia Nerou. The Dubliners, considered by many the most important band of their generation, return to Athens with perhaps the best album of the year and the biggest show they have ever given in Greece. They will be joined by the leading duo of dark electronica in what promises to be an exciting festival night.
More acts to be announced soon!
Fontaines D.C. formed in 2017 by five fellow students from BIMM Music College in Dublin. Grian Chatten (vocals), Carlos O’Connell (guitar), Conor Curley (guitar), Conor Deegan III (bass) and Tom Coll (drums) shared a love of poetry and the music of Joy Division, Fall and Wire, and released their debut album in 2019. “Dogrel” received rave reviews and a Mercury Prize nomination, establishing them as one of the most exciting new voices on the British music scene. The equally successful “A Hero’s Death” (2020) and “Skinty Fia” (2022) followed, expanding their sound beyond their post-punk roots, while the release of “Romance” last summer solidified them as “the defining band of their generation”, according to NME.
Known for their explosive live performances and lyrics that combine poetic sensibility with social commentary, Fontaines D.C. have given us some of the best rock songs of recent years (“Boys in the Better Land“, “Chequeless Reckless“, “A Hero’s Death“, “Televised Mind“, “Jackie Down the Line“, “I Love You“, “Starburster“, “Favourite“) and seem poised to reach the very top of the global music scene. They’re already heading full steam ahead for the biggest summer of their career, in the wake of this year’s landmark Glastonbury performance.
Next July, they will bring their biggest headline show to London’s Finsbury Park, with a capacity of 45,000 people (already sold out!), while in the same month they will also perform at Wythenshawe Park in Manchester, in front of 26,000 diehard fans! All this as part of a European tour that will start in June and will bring them back to Greece and Release Athens, where we will be delighted to welcome them, this time as headliners!

Boy Harsher, the exciting darkwave/electronic duo from Massachusetts, USA, consists of singer/songwriter Jae Matthews and producer Augustus Muller. They met while attending film school at the University of Savannah and began their journey as Teen Dreamz before evolving into their current form and moving to New England.
The band has managed to create a unique sound that combines dark synth beats, industrial influences and Matthews’ thrilling voice. Their debut EP “Lesser Man” (2014) and “Country Girl EP” made a splash in dark wave circles, while their first album “Yr Body Is Nothing” (2016) put them at the forefront of the underground electronic scene.
“Careful” (2019) marked their maturity as artists, while “The Runner” (2022) – accompanied by a short film of the same name – expanded their creative horizons in film. Known for their atmospheric live performances, Boy Harsher combine music and visuals to create an immersive experience, driven by great songs such as everyone’s favourite “Pain”, but also “Fate”, “Come Closer”, “Give Me A Reason”, “Burn It Down”, “Motion”, “Tears”, “LA” and “Modulations”, promising a performance we’ve been waiting for a long time!
