Release Athens 2024: Photo-story Thievery Corporation

A great evening that exceeded all expectations took place in the packed Plateia Nerou on Tuesday July 9th.

The day started with Anduze, a brilliant soul singer, who along with his band delivered a beautiful set, setting the stage for what we were to hear and see next. The seven-piece group of The Budos Band that followed was brilliant to say the least. Moving with characteristic ease from Afro-soul to 70s psychedelia, the American virtuosos delivered an almost cinematic show that brought the venue to its feet.

Next up were the Black Pumas, who proved right from the start why they are considered the latest big act in black music. Eric Burton and the charismatic Adrian Quesada, along with their backing band, put on a great show filled with all the songs that have earned them fans all over the world. From the opener “Fire” to the beautiful live version of “More Than A Love Song” and the finale of “Colors”, Black Pumas gave us some of the best moments of Release Athens 2024.

Finally, Greek audience favourites Thievery Corporation put on perhaps the best show they have ever given in Athens. Rob Garza and his group put on a great performance with selections from their entire discography, crossing all the genres they love with: dub/reggae, hip hop, bossa nova and electronica.

Release Athens 2024 continues on Wednesday July 17th with the long-awaited return of Massive Attack to Athens. They will be joined by Geoff Barrow’s Beak> and Mount Kimbie.
